CSCAA Announces Division II Awards and All-America Team
The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its NCAA Division II award winners and All-Americans for the 2022-23 season.
The awards were determined by a nationwide vote of CSCAA-member Division II head swimming coaches and head diving coaches. All-Americans are selected on the basis of their finish at the NCAA Championships and a team's current membership with the CSCAA. Only student-athletes who competed in their championship finals are eligible for All-America Honors. NCAA relays & individuals must score in the top 8 to earn first-team honors while those who finish ninth through sixteenth earn second-team honors.
Coach of the Year Awards
Nova Southeastern's Ben Hewitt won the Women's Swim Coach of the Year while Clarion's Heath Calhoun earned the Women's Dive Coach of the Year award. On the men's side, Jimmy Tierney of McKendree and Brent Noble of Indianapolis shared the Men's Swim Coach of the Year award while Corey Cole, also from Indianapolis, was named Men's Diving Coach of the Year.
Athlete of the Year Awards
On the women's side, Swimmer of the Year honors went to Emily Trieschmann of Nova Southeastern and Luna Vejarano (Clarion) was named Diver of the Year. For the men, Benjamin Sampson (Colorado Mesa) and Lamar Taylor (Henderson State) were honored as Co-Swimmers of the Year while Diver of the Year honors went to Julio Osuna Kelly (Indianapolis).
All-American Honors
The CSCAA selected 247 student-athletes for First Team All-America. An additional 173 individuals were named Second Team All-America. All-Americans are selected on the basis of their finish at their respective National Championships. Only student-athletes who competed in their championship finals are eligible for All-America honors.
