2022-23 Fall Scholar All-America Teams Announced
The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has selected 803 teams from 479 institutions to the Scholar All-America Team for the Fall 2022 semester. Teams were selected on the basis of their Fall 2022 team grade point averages and represent 19,426 student-athletes. Nine teams earned the honor for the first time, including Aquinas College (Women), Quincy (Men & Women), Saint Thomas (FL) (Men & Women), Southern Indiana (Men & Women), Hampden-Sydney (Men) and Maine Maritime Academy (Men).
100% Conferences & Top 10 Team GPAs
Worth special mention are the conferences in which 100% of their teams achieved Scholar All-America Honors. In Division I, fifteen women’s conferences and fourteen men’s conferences achieved 100%. In Division II, seven women’s conferences and five men’s conferences achieved 100%. In Division III, six women’s conferences and two men’s conferences achieved 100%. NOTE: In order to qualify as a conference with 100% Scholar All-America Teams, all teams that have a swim & dive program must be current CSCAA Members; submit their team application(s) on-time; and, the students need to earn a team GPA of 3.00 or higher.
In the overall team rankings, the Pomona-Pitzer women posted the highest team GPA (3.87) this fall while the women from Marshall (3.83), Keiser (3.83) and SCAD-Savannah (3.83) tied for second overall and the Richmond women tied with the MIT men for the fourth-best GPA (3.82) this semester. Below you will find a document that highlights the Top 10 Scholar All-America Teams by Division & Gender. NOTE: in order to be recognized as a “Top 10 Scholar All-America Team” each team must have a roster of at least eleven student-athletes.
Division I Scholar All-America Teams
In Division I, the Marshall women earned the highest team GPA (3.83) with Richmond (3.82), Harvard (3.79), UNC-Wilmington (3.77) and Brown (3.77) rounding out the top five team GPAs this fall. On the men’s side, the Harvard men had the highest team GPA (3.79) followed by Brown (3.69), Stanford (3.66) and Gardner-Webb (3.61) in second, third and fourth, respectively. There was a four-way tie for fifth with Davidson, Duke, Yale and Youngstown State all achieving a 3.59 GPA.
Division II Scholar All-America Teams
In Division II, the Catawba women earned the highest team GPA (3.77) with Cal-State East Bay (3.74) and Clarion (3.70) coming in second and third, respectively. There was a three-way tie for fourth between Florida Southern, Lenoir-Rhyne and Lynn (3.68). On the men’s side, Florida Southern had the highest team GPA (3.67) followed by #2 Nova Southeastern (3.54), #3 Northern Michigan (3.50) and #4 Lynn (3.48) as well as Lenoir-Rhyne and Mines in a tie for fifth (3.47).
Division III Scholar All-America Teams
In Division III, the Pomona-Pitzer women earned the highest team GPA (3.87) with Whitman (3.77) in second and Washington College (MD) (3.74) in third. There was a three-way tie for fourth with Macalester, Swarthmore and WashU all earning 3.73 as their team GPA. On the men’s side, MIT had the highest team GPA (3.82) followed by Williams (3.79), Johns Hopkins (3.76), Pomona-Pitzer (3.74) and WashU (3.73).
NAIA & NJCAA Scholar All-America Teams
In the NAIA, there was a tie for the top women’s spot between Keiser and SCAD-Savannah as both teams earned a 3.83 GPA this fall. There was another tie for third between Bethel (IN) and St. Mary (KS), both of which earned a 3.68 GPA this fall. Coming in fifth was Soka (3.61). On the men’s side, Saint Ambrose led the way with a 3.72 team GPA this fall with Keiser (3.63), Soka (3.47), College of Idaho (3.42) and SCAD-Savannah (3.36) rounding out the top five.
In the NJCAA, two institutions had both their men and women qualify as Scholar All-America Teams: Indian River and Southwestern Oregon.
