Para Swimming Coaches Certification (PSCC) Available at Annual Meetings
The CSCAA 2023 Annual Meetings will offer Para Swimming Coaches Certification as an add-on to the full meetings agenda, announced Executive Director, Samantha Barany.
The Para Swimming Coaches Certification program (PSCC) is an educational program to supplement traditional swimming coach education. It is designed for coaches seeking to further develop their coaching knowledge, skills when coaching swimmers with a disability, and gain an understanding of the governance and differences that exist in the para swimming community.
The in-person certification course will take place on Sunday, May 7th at the host hotel (DoubleTree, Universal) from 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm. It will not conflict with any presentation or event offered as part of the CSCAA Annual Meetings full session. Members can register for the course here.
“We are proud to include this course at our annual meetings in Orlando. The para community is an important part of the complete swimming eco-system and we are excited to support them in this way. By providing education and certification opportunities at the convention we are not only broadening opportunities for our member coaches, we are expanding possibilities for the para swimmers they will someday coach.”
The certification program is designed as a hierarchy of learning that corresponds to the different levels of para swimmer development. It is a blend of on-line virtual presentations and in-person sessions with a focus on case studies, video, and experiential learning. There are four (4) levels.
The key prerequisite requirements are basic sport knowledge and USA Swimming coach membership in good standing. The program aims to expand the knowledge and experience of coaches coaching swimmers with disabilities.
A complete overview of each level can be found at: Para Swimming Coach Certification Overview
Members will complete Level 1, a virtual course, on April 30, 2023 and Level 2, the in-person course at convention, Sunday, May 7, 2023 at 1:30 -4:30pm.
