Virginia Women and Texas Men Retain Top Spots in Division I Rankings

The Virginia Women and Texas Men unanimous atop January Polls

January 23, 2025 - The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has published the January edition of the Division I Top 25 Dual Meet Poll, with the University of Virginia women's team and the Texas men's team maintaining their positions at the top.

The committee, consisting of Division I coaches, evaluates and ranks the nation's top 25 dual meet teams. Their assessment considers head-to-head dual meet outcomes, recent performances since the last rankings, season-long results, dual meet records, roster changes (such as injuries), and data from the SwimCloud Simulator. It's important to note that the poll's objective is not to predict the top finishers in a championship meet format.

Texas (400) maintained its unanimous position as the top team in the first poll of the new year. Indiana (381) retained the No. 2 spot, while Cal (360) narrowly edged out Arizona State (358) to claim third place. Florida (330) completed the top five.

Virginia Tech (205) and Texas A&M (137) made the most notable jumps in the rankings this month, with Virginia Tech climbing seven spots to12 and Texas A&M rising six spots to 17. The final four positions in the poll were filled by teams making their debut in the Top 25 this month: Kentucky (54), Harvard (43), Northwestern (41), and Princeton (41). Overall, 30 teams from five conferences received votes to start the new year.

The Virginia Cavaliers (425) once again secured the unanimous top spot to open 2025 in the Women’s Division I Poll. Overall, the women’s rankings saw minimal movement, with the top seven teams retaining their positions from last month. Texas (407), Stanford (391), Florida (367), Tennessee (365), Indiana (331), and Michigan rounded out the top seven in that order.

Southern California (183) and South Carolina (137) both climbed four spots, rising from 18 to 14 and 22 to 18, respectively. No new teams entered the top 25 from outside last month’s poll. A total of 28 teams representing four conferences received votes.

Dual meet records are sourced from each institution's website.

Each committee consists of twelve representatives from Power Four leagues and at-large programs. The committee chairs for women and men are Naya Higashijima (NMU) and Bill Roberts (Navy), respectively.
